The Swatch OTTO ROSSO SSX03R100N is part of the Royal Pop collection, created in collaboration between Swatch and Audemars Piguet. The design is based on the distinctive elements of the Royal Oak model, but the overall look takes on a completely different form inspired by Swatch’s archival POP line from the 1990s. The watch functions not only as a classic wristwatch, as its design allows it to be worn as a pocket watch or an accessory clipped onto accessories and clothing. The concept itself diverges significantly from typical watch collaborations and focuses more on an experimental approach to form and usage.The OTTO ROSSO version features a combination of vibrant red and pink. The case is paired with a cherry-red octagonal bezel made of bioceramic, whose design directly references the characteristic proportions of the Royal Oak. Eight pink hexagonal screws are set on the bezel’s surface, while the dial features a pattern inspired by the “Tapisserie” motif, associated with Audemars Piguet models. The combination of bold colors with a geometric form gives the design a more pop art and collector’s item character than classic Swiss watches.The model’s construction utilizes bioceramic, which accounts for its light weight and distinctly matte surface finish. The front and back are protected by sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, which is one of the main differences from Swatch’s earlier designs based on synthetic materials. The set also includes a leather lanyard strap made of calfskin with contrasting stitching. The diameter of the watch itself is approximately 40 mm, while when mounted in a special holder, the design takes on the more elongated proportions characteristic of pocket watches.Powering the watch is the SISTEM51 movement in a new manual-winding version. The movement offers approximately 90 hours of power reserve and utilizes an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring. The case back remains transparent, allowing a view of part of the movement and the engravings created specifically for the Royal Pop collection. The hands and hour markers are coated with Class A Super-LumiNova, which emits blue light after dark.The Royal Pop design was created as a reinterpretation of one of the world’s most recognizable luxury watches without directly copying the classic Royal Oak. Inspiration came from both Audemars Piguet’s archival pocket watches and the modular Swatch POP series, which allows the wearer to change how the watch is worn. In the case of the OTTO ROSSO model, the strong color contrast further emphasizes the more experimental nature of the entire collection.
